Asteroids Anywhere

Working on a few post that aren’t quite ready to be published. In the meantime, why not have some fun? Play the Atari classic, Asteroids, in your browser window.

  • Steer with the left and right arrow-keys.
  • Activate thrust with the up arrow-key
  • Shoot with the space bar.
  • Points are displayed in the bottom right corner.
  • Press the escape key to exit.
  • To see elements that haven’t been destroyed press and hold B

To play Asteroids anywhere create an Asteroids bookmarklet by dragging this button Asteroids into your bookmarks toolbar. Navigate to your favorite website and click the bookmark to begin playing.

Optimizing Google AdSense

When I implemented Google AdSense I noticed my pages loading slower. This was to be somewhat expected, but pages were stopping while each ad loaded. The sidebar was especially slow to appear.

I decided that the best solution would be to load the ads in the footer, but I was a little nervous about how best to achieve this. Luckily, I found a great tutorial on building an AdSense loader. I had to make a few tweaks to the jQuery, but it was a great starting point.

I explained in an earlier post how to display multiple AdSense ads in the loop using WP_Query properties. This builds on that functionality.

Something to Pass the Time

Just downloaded WordPress 3.0 and now seems like as good a time as ever to actually start blogging. I’ve been developing WP sites for over a year now, but I’ve never bothered to put time into my own blog. Anyway here it goes…

Well this is harder that I though. Here’s something to play with until I figure out what the hell I’m going to write about.
