We already know that Jimmy Fallon has the best house band in late-night, but this takes it to another level. Last night the Roots greeted Michele Bachmann with a Fishbone song that expresses the feelings that many people share for the Republican nominee.
Don’t get it? Neither did I, but thanks to Twitter…
Every once in a while you discover an artist or musician and realize that you have been missing out on something special. When this happens, for me at least, there is a feeling of embarrassment that goes along with it. I think to myself, “How are you 30 years old and have never heard of ?!!” I had this experience on Wednesday night at Off Broadway when I heard Jonathan Richman for the first time.
Jonathan Richman on Conan O'Brien circa 1994 – Let Her Go Into The Darkness
Richman made a name for himself when he formed the band “The Modern Lovers” in 1970. The band consisted of Jonathan Richman on guitar, Ernie Brooks on bass, David Robinson (The Cars) on drums, and keyboardist Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads). The Modern Lovers were a punk rock band before the term existed. Some consider Richman one of the godfathers of punk.
I already tweeted a link to this, but I felt like it deserved more prominence. It’s obvious that “Meatstick” is the key to world peace. Here comes the hot dog.
Saved my favorite for last. I have to admit to being a fan of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I first heard this tune on one of their greatest hits albums, but it was actually a solo release by Greg Lake. It’s kind of a Christmas protest song. The Christmas we get we deserve.
